Chevrolet Teams Up with OK Go for Super Bowl Ads

It doesn't really matter what team you're rooting for on Super Bowl Sunday, because when it's time for a commercial break, everybody's on the same team. As of 2009, a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl ad cost nearly $300,000, and had the potential of reaching an audience of about 90 million people. These factors alone mean that (even if your team is losing), you'll be treated to a laugh or a heart-warming chuckle in the very least. And of course, you can't expect major automakers like Chevy not to participate.
So this year, when the Giants and the Patriots went head-to-head for their Super Bowl rings, there's a chance you caught a glimpse of no less than five ads from Chevy. Why so many? "The Super Bowl is a huge opportunity for Chevrolet to connect with millions of consumers - before, during and after the game - with our ads and digital extensions," says Joel Ewanick, Global Chief Marketing Officer, at GM.
Featured this year? Chevy cars and trucks of course! Most notably, the Chevy Sonic in its very first music video with OK Go. Lead singer Damian Kulash, Jr. says, "We always strive to find a new path with our music and our videos, so it's really great to partner with a company like Chevrolet that is willing to push boundaries to connect with their audience, too."2 Of course, he's referring to the marketing campaign for the Sonic that included a skydiving stunt, bungee jumping stunt, and a kick flip over the world's largest skateboard.
In addition to the music video and other spots for the Sonic, one ad featured a post-apocalyptic world where only the Chevy Silverado and Twinkies survived. Another poked fun at the out-of-this-world capabilities of the 2012 Chevy Volt. And of course, the highly-anticipated premier of the ChevroletRoute66 Contest winner, "Happy Grad," created by 26-year-old Long Island resident Zach Borst.
So, really, which commercial did you root for this year? Be sure to stay tuned with Hurricane Chevrolet to learn more about all of Chevrolet's innovative campaigns and partnerships.
