New Chevy Caprice Hits the Beat

The new Caprice from Chevrolet is joining the ranks of the men and women in blue. Now, you might think it difficult for anything new to get into the inner circle of cops. Chevy, however, is confident the new Caprice PPV has exactly what it takes.

Our sureness stems from the fact that the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice PPV has been designed from the inside, out to cater exclusively to cops, and help make their inarguably difficult jobs a little bit easier... and a lot more comfortable.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the new Caprice and its rival PPVs is size. While it seems counterintuitive, we'll start with the backseat, where the handcuffed offenders sit.

The 2012 Chevy Caprice PPV offers rear-seat passengers 43-plus-inches of legroom. That's extremely generous. And, no, Chevy isn't indulging criminals... The added space actually allows Chevy to fit a full-size prisoner partition without forcing the front seats into an uncomfortable, bolt-upright position.

In addition to the extra space in the back of the cabin, the new Chevy Caprice PPV also promises more room for the driver and front-seat passenger, as well as extra space for cargo in the trunk. Even the seats themselves are more comfortable and supportive than competitors'. The feature Hurricane Chevrolet thinks cops will find most arresting, however, are the special seat belts, specially cut to accommodate belts, guns and other standard cop gear.

If that's not enough to win over forces, there are a handful of other features that certainly will. These include:

- Available auxiliary battery
- Heavy-duty vinyl flooring
- Common fleet keying
- Disabled rear door handles, locks and windows
- Available remote start for auxiliary lighting and sirens

To top it all off Chevrolet is even offering the Caprice with an available Police 9C1 package. A step up from the standard 2012 Chevy Caprice PPV, it relocates window switches and parking brake from the center console to the door and floor respectively, making room for a laptop and/or other necessary equipment.

As previously mentioned, the Caprice is strictly a PPV, at this time. That said. We're hopeful Chevy will eventually decide to take it from police chariot to mainstream model, in the near future.  One thing is for sure...if the next cop who pulls you over is driving a Chevy Caprice, he/she will likely be in a better mood, with a smile on his/her face. Who knows...the Caprice might just be to your advantage.
