Chevrolet Teams With Spotify...What is Spotify?

Most people are familiar with Chevrolet, probably due to the fact that Chevrolet has been manufacturing automobiles in the U.S. for 100 years. Spotify, on the other hand, is new to the U.S. and has only been available since July. You might be thinking, "What the heck is Spotify?" Let us explain.

Spotify is not an automaker, like Chevrolet. Rather, they're a music-streaming service that has become wildly successful in Europe over the past two years, and has just launched in the U.S.

What ties, then, does Chevrolet have with Spotify? Chevrolet has stepped forward as one of the first supporters of Spotify, and might we add the only automaker,  to help the up-and-coming company achieve the same popularity in the U.S. that they've earned across the pond, if not more.

On the day of Spotify's launch, Chevrolet demonstrated their support by inviting the first 150,000 requests received through the Chevy Sonic tab of their Facebook page to try the music-streaming service at no cost. Kevin Mayer, Director of Advertising, Chevrolet explains that Chevy's support of Spotify's endeavor is an evolution of the company's commitment to bringing consumers a fresh approach to listening to and sharing music.

The alliance may be as simple as that. But, when Mayer says, "Chevrolet continues to play a significant role in America's popular music culture as evidenced by the brand and vehicles highlighted in hundreds of songs over the years"1, we can't help but think the alliance serves as a precursor to the automaker brining new, advanced music-streaming services (i.e., Spotify) to forthcoming models.
